Since the band wants to combine a photo and also add text to the logo I would use Photoshop. The reason for this is because on Photoshop you can blend a picture of the band, the band logo and also you can then add text to it. Finally the logo will need to be saved as a JPEG.
A builder wants some eye catching text for the side of his van to improve business opportunities.
I think the builder should use vectors because you can zoom in on the text that you use and it won't come up all pix elated. If it was pix elated it would be unclear and have jagged edges. Also this will be easier and turn out better after the vinyl cutter has cut it out.
The nursery on your estate would like a flyer designed to promote the facility.
For the nursery I would use PDF because if you create the poster on publisher and you send it to the nursery it can be opened on any computer if it is saved as a PDF. This means you can access it on any computer and then print it off.
